Thanks to Brian Kelly, Founder and CEO of The Points Guy, I was able to visit LA again. Yes, that’s just another excuse for traveling. Brian and the Hilton Honors partnered to host a Grammys Kick-off Party at the Beverly Hilton Stardust Penthouse and Rooftop in Beverly Hills on February 9th.
While driving to the event, I was able to to see the lights coming out from the rooftop terrace. The Beverly Hilton is an iconic venue; this is where the Golden Globes takes place every year. This is also where the Grammys ceremony took place for the first time. And to top things, this is the hotel where they found the body of Whitney Huston. This hotel has a lot of history and it is in a great location, only a few blocks from the famous shopping mecca and one of my favorites, Rodeo Drive. If you are a points fanatic, rooms were available starting at 60,000 points a night!
As always, Brian and his team do a great job putting events together. From the food, the décor and the entertainment. Brian ran a Social Media campaign and selected 100 TPG readers to attend the event, smart marketing move! The Points Guys currently has over 1 million Facebook followers! I was able to recognize a few readers among the crowd. Among the attendees, you could find representatives from the Always 5 Star Travel agency; musician and former American Got Talent finalist, Brian Justin Crum; TPG’s famous French bulldog Miles, and of course me, representing, Cool Gay Travels!
Upon arrival to the event, attendees were directed to walk the usual carpet for pictures. As a former model, this is always one of my favorite parts! Once we got in the room, I had the opportunity to talk to Brian before the room got crowded. For those of you that don’t know Brian aka The Points Guys personally, he is super nice. Brian is a person that I look after and he inspired us to create Cool Gay Travels, so of course I was going to flight to LA to support him.
One of the coolest part of the evening was when Brian took over the stage for his “Oprah” moment. First, every attendee at the event got Hilton Honor Gold status. That’s one of the best mid-level status! Then, he gave away 2 nights at any Hilton in any of its locations anywhere in the world courtesy of Hilton Honors- great prize!
After the prize portion, the entertainment portion of the event started with Grammy nominee, Lukas Graham. The band opened their set with the “Better than yourself” song. They performed for about 45 minutes, and their show included a few ballads, and concluded with their hit song “7 years.” I have been to plenty of concerts and Lukas is one of his kind. He’s a very talented and down to earth young man, as well as his band members. A lot of celebrities perform their sets and call it a night. Lukas had his mom and friends there; they hanged out with everybody at the event.
After the event concluded at 10:00 pm, we all called it the night and went to bed in order to recover from our jet-lag. The next day, I went to West Hollywood and visited Hamburger Mary’s and ran into Jai Rodriguez and some RuPaul’s Drag Race stars. Stay tune for our next posting.
